TLMC Support "Inspire Malawi"

We are pleased to sponsor a charity project set up by one of our ex collegues.

Michelle Rowe worked with us during her school and university holidays, she set up "Inspire Malawi" after travelling through rural Malawi whilst on her gap year.

Through her sheer drive and determination she has raised enough money to make a real difference to many different Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Schools in the Dedza and Ntcheu Districts. February 11th 2010 saw the official launch of the charity as a non-profit making organisation, which hopes to raise a further £23,000 for projects this year.

The work includes building or re-furbishing school buildings and providing equipment and training and the on-going development of teachers. They always employ local craftsmen and source materials locally. The whole community gets involved by making bricks and collecting sand and water, so all money spent stays in the area and the local community are very much part of the project and feel involved and responsible for it.

It has been reported that since the improvements have been made, school attendances have gone up and children are staying in school for longer, which helps to build a brighter future for both the children and the whole community.

Michelle takes parties of volunteers out to the region for "hands on visits" that really make a difference.
